Upgrading Computer Memory Is Necessary For All Computers

Unless you have been in some far off land where there are no computers then you know that the computer industry is constantly changing.. In such a short time computers have gone from being these huge bulky machines to the size of your palm. As computers have been getting smaller, they have also gotten more efficient and faster at completing their function. But if you have already bought a computer and it is a few years old, do you really need to go and buy a new computer? Is spending a thousand bucks every couple of years really the answer? The truth is, upgrading computer memory is probably a better idea than buying a whole new computer.

Before upgrading computer memory, you should probably figure out what memory is, how much you need, and what kind you need.

One of the least understood aspects of the computer is the way the memory operates. Many people assume that the computer only has one type of memory and that it is totally limitless.

When your computer starts to run slower and it is a couple of years old, it may even begin to freeze up, most people think the computer is too old and needs to be replaced. Although the computer is using older technology, it may not be time to throw the machine out just yet.

You would be surprised at how much upgrading computer memory can change the way that computer functions. You may also be surprised to know that upgrading your computers memory is very simple and takes about 10 minutes

Upgrading computer memory is probably the cheapest and easiest way to fix your computer.

Before you head out the door and upgrading computer memory though to find that memory you might want to understand a little bit more about the different types of memory and how the work.

Most people know about RAM memory and virtual memory. Well, at least they have heard about it. The problem is that most people don't understand the difference. RAM stands from Random Access memory and this memory remembers actions, programming, how to use different software. The problem is that people think that this memory has no limits. Actually it does have limits, and and when RAM is full it moves the memory to the virtual memory. Now, virtual memory is only intended to be used for temporary storage. So at this stage it is important to think about upgrading computer memory or your computer will slow down and you may not be able to use some programs or you will start to find that some of the information is lost.

Another type of computer memory is your computers ROM memory and unfortunately it is not eligible for upgrading computer memory. This type of memory is a read only memory which means that you cannot change the contents at least not very easily. This memory begits to work and is used to start your computer and to shut it down. Rom memory es a self test when you turn it on and makes sure the system is ready to load all programming and then the ROM memory hands everything over to the RAM memory. ROM checks all the basic components of your computer. This type of memory can not be changed and does not affect the way you handle applications. Usually if the ROM memory is defective then you can not start any application and your computer shuts down. Unfortunately there is not much you can do if the ROM memory is defective except change the motherboard, and in that case it is probably best to just get another computer.
