Computer Memory Is Like Human MemoryChances are that if you are a part of the computer world at all, that you have heard of the famous computer upgrade. But do you really know what happens in a computer upgrade? One of the most important aspects in the computer ugrade is the adding of computer memory. Computer memory is usually added or suggested as an option when you take your computer in to be upgraded. In reality upgrading and adding memory is not as difficult as you would think. Adding computer memory is a great way to make your computer perform better and faster. Plus there is the added benefit that computer memory is not that expensive. When you do several things on a computer at once the systems performance can decrease and over time some machines stop reading every computer memory module, and this slows down your computer. It may even slow it down to a degree that you might feel that the computer just does not work. The easiest and least expensive way to fix this problem is by adding more computer memory. By increasing the amount of memory your computer has you are able to multitask on your computer without a problem. You may even be multitasking and not even know that you are doing it. For instance if you have music playing on your computer while you are chatting or writing a letter, then you are multitasking. If you are chatting and surfing on the internet or have an internet site open at the same time, then you are multitasking. Important Considerations when Upgrading your computer memory When you are going to upgrade the computer memory in your computer you need to find out certain things about your computer. First you need to find out what kind of Pentium computer you have, and whether you have a windows based system or a Macintosh. Why? Different Pentiums use types of memory, and macintosh memory is totally different from windows based memory. Next you will need to open your computer case and look at the available memory slots you have. If you don't have any available memory slots look at the size of the ram memory you have in the slots. You may be able to take one out and add a much larger memory module. Figure out what kind of memory your computer uses. If you are not sure: push the holding pins back on the memory you have installed in your computer and take it down to the computer store. Tell your sales person that you are looking for that type of memory. You may have a hard time finding some types of memory modules for older computers at a computer store. If that is your case, then go to a small computer repair shop and ask if they have memory of that type. Buy the most memory that your computer will take. Some of the newer computers take as much as 2GB of memory, but some of the older machines may only take up to 512mb of memory. If your machine is older add as much memory as you can up to the computers limit. Make sure you get the exact type of memory that your computer now holds. And if your computer will only accept up to 512Mb then you need to remember to count the existing computer memory you have too, that is if you are going to continue using it. |
